Submission Guidelines for the Survivor’s Page

First and foremost, we want to thank you for considering the contribution of your work to our Survivor’s Page.  We know it takes an incredible amount of courage to even think about writing and sharing your experience with sexual assault, and we hope you know how much we value your voices.  We believe in the power of your voice and your story.  As the author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie so gracefully stated, “Many stories matter.  Stories have been used to dispossess and to malign.  But stories can also be used to empower, and to humanize.  Stories can break the dignity of a people.  But stories can also repair that broken dignity.”

“See The Real Me”  by Libby

From the ashes,

I arise as the Phoenix.

Fire cleanses me,

I am set free.

I have conquered depression,

This will not bring me to my knees.

I am set free.

See the real me.

From the ashes,

I arise as the Phoenix,

He scarred my heart,

He violated a sacred part of me,

Only in the ashes

Am I set free.

The fire burning inside,

I will not let it destroy me,

From the ashes,

I arise as the Phoenix,

I am set free.

Victim is not my name.

I will no longer allow the shame,

As the Phoneix arises from the ashes,

Memories forever in my mind.

The fire cleanses me.

See the real me!

From the ashes, as I arise as the Phoenix,

I am reborn.

A better, stronger me.

See the real me!
