Volunteer Description
Victim Advocate
The major responsibility for the Victim Advocate is to staff the 24-hour hotline and provide hotline
and medical advocacy as needed.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The responsibilities for the Victim Advocate are:
- Assume responsibility for a minimum of two 12-hour shifts per month
- Provide hotline and medical advocacy during scheduled shifts
- Provide non-judgmental support to victims and their families
- Provide information about WASAC services and referrals within the community
- Victim Advocates are expected to keep up to date on all agency communications
- Must be prompt and represent WASAC in a professional manner
- Observe all Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center policies and procedures
- Contact the office or on-call staff if you are unable to assume responsibility for your scheduled
shift
ATTENDANCE:
Schedule at least two 12-hour shifts per month with the Advocacy Coordinator. Assume
responsibility for scheduled shifts.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Mature and dependable individual who is non-judgmental and has an understanding of the needs
of sexual assault victims
- Must successfully complete the volunteer intake process and 40-hour agency training
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Must have reliable transportation and phone
